Passage - Once, a City Mouse visited his country cousin. The Country Mouse, with a bustling life and daily chores, warmly welcomed his town relative. Although the meal offered was simple—bread, cheese, and water collected with care—it was freely given.
The City Mouse, disdainful of this rural fare, remarked, "I can't fathom, Cousin, how you endure such plain food. But, I suppose, one can't expect better in the countryside. Come with me, and I'll show you a different way of life. After a week in town, you'll question how you endured country living."
So, the two mice embarked for the town, arriving at the City Mouse's home late at night. The polite City Mouse suggested, "After our long journey, you must be hungry." He led his friend to the grand dining room, where the remnants of a fine feast awaited. The two mice indulged in jellies, cakes, and various delectable foods. "It's always like this here," said the City Mouse. "I don't have to toil for my food at all!"
Suddenly, they heard growls and barks. "What's that?" cried the Country Mouse. "Just the house dogs," replied the City Mouse.
"Only!" exclaimed the Country Mouse. "I dislike that kind of disturbance during dinner." At that moment, the door burst open, and two massive black dogs entered, growling and snarling. The two mice hastily scurried away, leaving behind the delicious foods. The City Mouse had no stored food or water in his home. "Goodbye, Cousin," said the Country Mouse.
"Leaving so soon?" inquired the City Mouse.
"Yes," said the Country Mouse. "I'd rather have bread and cheese in peace than fancy treats in fear!"
