The flag of Nicaragua, which has been used since 1908, is composed of three horizontal stripes in blue, white and blue colors. In the middle of the white stripe, there is a national coat of arms in the shape of a triangle. The emblem displays five volcanoes that are supposed to represent five states of former United Provinces of Central America - along with Nicaragua it was Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica and El Salvador.

A rainbow extends over the volcanoes together with Phrygian cap of liberty and white torches. Two blue stripes are to remind the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, but also justice and loyalty. White traditionally symbolizes purity and honesty. Similar symbolism can be found on the flags of El Salvador and Costa Rica. Source - Flagpedia
